Eastlands Mystery Cruise

Winter is always a challenging time to organise an event that will get the members out of their comfortable warm homes. However there comes time when the blood starts to flow and we get that burning desire to get behind the wheel of our cars and travel with other likeminded friends. Pete decided to do a Mystery cruise which managed to get 8 of our members out of their comfort zone. The roar of a V8 starting up signified that we are about to move. I wish the sound was coming from my car but alias it was from the Silver Bullet of Ian.
Our “PONE” (Pete) lead the way on our mystery cruise and it was not long before we were on the main road heading to Opotiki. The good thing is that we did turn off the main road and headed along some back roads that I have never been on or new they existed. As we came across intersections, it was a tossup as to who provided the best show, the roar of the Silver bullet or Tony who was trying to leave his tread marks on the road. Either way it was great to see and hear the roar of the cars as they headed off in pursuit of our leader PONE. Not knowing where we were going was exciting for some but for Jim it brought some concerns as to whether or not he had enough petrol. I think Jim has learnt a lesson for future mystery runs, fill the car up. Driving on fumes with no petrol stations in sight is not a good look.
We want to thank Pete for teaching us how to do a U Turn down a country road. Being the last in our convoy I was somewhat sur-prised to see our leader passing me in the opposite direction. Seems our mystery cruise was also a mystery for our leader. Pete, I am not sure why you stopped at the local tennis club which was closed. A cafe or pub I could understand, unless you were trying to get your bearings!
When we arrived back at Pete & Sarah’s we had a few drinks and a debrief on the cruise. The BBQ was soon alight and smell of meat cooking was floating in the air. Thank to Pete & Sarah for hosting the BBQ and thanks Pete for organising the mystery cruise. Thanks to everyone that turned up.
